FACULTY OF HISTORY AND LINGUISTICS

General information

The faculty was formed in 2015 as a result of merging of two faculties: Historical and Philological. For the first time the historical and philological faculty has been formed by the order of All-Union committee on affairs of the higher school at No. 323 SNK USSR of November 22, 1943. In the midst of the Great Patriotic War the country has needed teachers of history and Russian. The historical and philological faculty was placed in the building of the former Noble board (where the faculty of foreign languages is placed now). In the beginning it was very difficult as students were lacked of audiences, notebooks, visual aids. Teaching and educational process has been strongly politized, according to the Letter of Department of teacher training Universities of the Ministry of the higher education of the USSR in which there were following words "... through all rate of the Western European and American literature the thought that fight of two worlds — capitalist and socialist becomes from now on determining in historico-literary process".

Now the historical and philological faculty is located in two cases of ULGPU of I. N. Ulyanov:

1. The historical office is located in the building 2 of the university at the address: 2 floor, 2, Koryukin St., Ulyanovsk;

2. The philological office is located in the main building of the university at the address: 4, V.I. Lenin 100 Anniversary Square, Ulyanovsk.

The faculty consists of four departments:

  • Department of History

  • Department of Russian language, Literature and Journalism

  • Department of Philosophy and Social Disciplines

  • Department of Cultural Studies and Museology

The teaching staff of faculty makes 70 teachers, from them 15 teachers are doctors of science and 44 candidates of science.

At faculty training of bachelors and masters on internal and extramural studies is conducted in the following directions of preparation: Pedagogical education (with two profiles of preparation), Museology and protection of objects of cultural and natural heritage, Welfare activity, Journalism, Theology, Pedagogical education (with one profile of preparation)

At faculty the postgraduate study functions  in the directions: pedagogical sciences; linguistics and literary criticism; historical sciences and archeology; philosophy, ethics and religious studies.
