History of the faculty

Faculty of Physical and Mathematical and Technological Education was formed in 2015 by merge of two faculties: Physical and Mathematical faculty and faculty of Technology and Design.

Faculty of Mathematics and Physics is the oldest faculty at the university. The first set of the Physics and Mathematics Department, as it was then called, was produced in 1932. Occupations were started by 28 future mathematics teachers and 30 teachers of physics.

The material resources of faculty have begun with small masterful department of physics where wooden optical benches, the first laboratory installations for laboratories of mechanics, electricity and optics were produced.

Within forty five years the world famous scientist, the doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor A. A. Strauss has been working at the department of the mathematical analysis.

Scientific traditions of faculty continue by current teachers who not only successfully defended his doctoral thesis, but they are the initiators of the scientific and practical conferences: of holding scientific and scientific and practical conferences: interuniversity, regional, All-Russian and international. So, holding scientific conferences on departments became traditional: techniques of teaching mathematics and informatics "Topical issues of a technique of training in mathematics and informatics", physics "Forming of educational abilities in implementation process of standards of education", "RUSGRAV-14", the higher mathematics - a conference on various questions of the mathematical analysis, A. W. Strauss's memory, etc.

History of the Faculty of Technology and Design began in 1991, with the order of the Pedagogical Institute. Industrial-pedagogical faculty was based on the basis of physics and mathematics faculty - the predecessor of the Faculty of Technology and Design. The department of labor training and bases of production and department of physics and public disciplines operated on faculty,  which was soon renamed into department of all-technical disciplines. Same year the specialty "0302.Work", training teachers of work has been open.

In 1992 the faculty was reorganized into independent structural division.

In 1993 the agrotechnical station in the village of Dubravka of the Ulyanovsk region was put into operation, where students of faculty did practical training.

In 1995 the Faculty moved to new building 3, located on Gagarin Street. There were established museum of lace and folk art, and sewing and carpentry workshops.

In 1995 a new specialty "030 600 Technology and business" with the assignment of graduates qualification “teacher of technology and business” was opened at the faculty.

In accordance with the decision of the Academic Council in 1997, the industrial-pedagogical faculty was  renamed into the faculty of technology and business, and the department of labor studies and production bases - in the department of technology.

The All-Russian scientific and practical conference "Technological education of younger generation: modern approaches"' was for the first time organized and held at faculty in 2004 .

MODERN CONDITIONS OF TRAINING

At the faculty the students' scientific society "FIZMATRITSA" functions. The asset of society directs clubs on informatics, physics, mathematics, organizes the Olympiad in subjects among  university students and schoolchildren, scientific student's conferences, helps to prepare and to spend Day of science on the faculty, which traditionally takes place on 12 April. Undergraduates participate in work interuniversity scientific student's conferences, the international student's scientific conferences in Moscow and Kazan.

Under the guidance of experienced teachers, students learn the mathematical analysis, the theory of functions of a complex variable, differential equations, algebra, number theory, geometry, mathematical logic, programming, bases of artificial intelligence, multimedia technology, molecular physics, optics, nuclear physics, astronomy, the basics of methods of teaching mathematics , physics, computer science, foreign language, and others.

Particular attention is paid to the practical training of students. 25 scientific and educational laboratories are equipped with modern devices and installations: the laboratory of mechanics, molecular physics, optics, electricity, semiconductor lasers, fully equipped classrooms of physics. The Faculty has four display classes, staffed by the latest generation of computers.

A wide network of clubs, regular extracurricular activities allow students to master the basics of computer science.

Students pass pedagogical practicing of four types: propaedeutic, summer and two educational practices on the main and additional specialties. It should be noted that educational institutions always give positive reviews about level of training of probationers. During summer student teaching students work in children's recreation camps of the Ulyanovsk region, at the Black and Azov seas, in the USA.

The Faculty has five departments:

• Department of Methodology of mathematical and information and technological education

• Department of Higher Mathematics

• Department of Physics

• Department of Information Technologies

• Department of Technology and Vocational Education 
  

The faculty has 3 doctors of sciences, professors, 35 associate professors from the 54 teachers. Dean of the Faculty is located in the main building of the University at 4,  V.I. Lenin 100 Anniversary Square, Ulyanovsk.  

Currently 858 students in the full-time  and 775 in part-time form of  education are trained on the faculty. Faculty prepares bachelors on profiles:

• Mathematics and Computer Science;

• Physics and Informatics;

• Mathematics and a foreign language;

• Physics and Mathematics;

• Technology and Informatics;

• Service and maintenance of road transport;

• Decorative and applied arts and design;

• Technology and organization of restaurant service.

Besides, training of masters of pedagogical education is carried out in the following directions:

• Mathematics;

• Physics;

• Education quality management.

• Technology;

• Information technologies in education;

• Engineering pedagogics;

• Computer modeling, information design and advertizing in education.

On the basis of faculty occupations of a professional directivity function: decoratively – application-oriented creativity, the electro-and radio technician, information technologies, etc. For girls there is a possibility of development of creative abilities, they learn hand and machine embroidery, knitting, tatting, patchwork technique, macramé, beading , natural materials, as well as the 9th form of needlework of choice.

During the training period, and during the passage of technological practice, students receive additional specialty workers: turners, millers, welder manual arc welding in "Vocational training". During extracurricular time, students have an excellent opportunity to get free of charge additional specialty, such as: educational management, logopedics, foreign language, etc.

The material and technical resources of faculty meet the modern requirements, educational workshops on the studied specialties work here: laboratories of electrical equipment and radio engineering, a computer class, workshops on handling of fabric, foodstuff and constructional materials, the educational offices, lecture audiences equipped with the modern equipment.

At faculty research work is actively conducted. Since 2009 the student's design bureau "Search" (SPKB) has been working under the leadership of the candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor S. N. Shaylanov, whose main activity is designing and production of the educational radio-electronic equipment. On the IX International salon "Innovations and Investments" the equipment developed by SPKB "Search" was awarded a bronze medal. Students - members of SPKB participated in the All-Russian innovative forum "Seliger-2009".

For students of pedagogical university and everyone "The school of preparation for family life" functions (the head Shleykova N. Yu.), which is a unique opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills to competently build and develop family relationships, reveal the qualities family man, to get out of conflict situations, to solve problems of a young family and many other things. Classes are given by competent experts - teachers, psychologists, culinary specialists, lawyers, doctors.

The pedagogical research center operating at faculty on prophylaxis of the social and dangerous phenomena in society under the leadership of the candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor S. N. Shaylanov conducts active scientific and educational work on prevention of drug abuse, tobacco smoking, HIV infection, etc.

For students who wish to develop the design skills, artistic taste and creativity and to learn to sew clothes and represent a model on the catwalk opened a new direction: "The theater of fashion". The collection "Fashion Theatre" created from original material (paper, polyethylene) made a splash at the exhibition III All-Russian forum of students, "We - for a healthy lifestyle", which was held on May 23-25, 2012 in Ulyanovsk.

Great interest of residents of Ulyanovsk was attracted by the exhibition of retrocars organized by faculty of technology and design in the summer of 2012 which became a peculiar presentation of a new educational cross-section "Service and maintance of the motor transport".

At faculty volunteer activities of students develop. The cooperation with RTs "Sunflower" for children with limited opportunities is set up. Students participate in implementation of the social project "Preparation for Family Life of Orphan Children" based on orphanage "Nest".

For 20-year history of the Faculty has produced many gifted young professionals who with their talent, diligence, patience, work, passion and inspiration eager to succeed in their lives. Graduates of the faculty are demanded, except educational sphere of activity, in a variety of industries and types of labor market activity:

• production and innovation;

• social services;

• domestic services;

• trade and public catering;

• housing and utilities.
  

They are able to carry out the project activities, possess the basic concepts of a market economy, management and marketing, know how to use computers, know the basics of psychology and ethics of communication, possess the skills management professional group or team, to understand the trends and main directions of development of science and technology, the main environmental problems of modern civilization.

STUDENT LIFE

At faculty student's self-government is developed, which main areas of work are educational and organizational, research, sports, information and analytical, cultural and mass, social areas.

Senior students pay special attention to unity of first-year students and their involvement in fascinating and rich student's life. Traditionally student's asset in will organize change in the summer camp (village Arkhangelskoe), in the first days of September the ropes course for first-year students - the active training directed to improvement of skills of team interaction, unity of children and creation of the atmosphere of mutual assistance and support, the competition-review "First-year student" is conducted. Students of all rates actively participate in the creative tenders "Student's Fall" and "Student's Spring".

At faculty talented students study who are successful not only in study, but also in creativity. So, Victoria Ladanova has become the winner of regional, national and international vocal competitions and each time impressed the jury with her unique voice.

At faculty the volunteer movement directed to promotion of a healthy lifestyle is developed. At a regional congress of volunteers on November 12, 2011 the second-year student Marcel Nureyev received the Letter of thanks of the governor of the Ulyanovsk region S. I. Morozov for active living position and promotion of a healthy lifestyle.

Students of physics and mathematics involved in sports, playing for the national team at the university city competitions in basketball, volleyball and other sports. In 2012, in Innsbruck, Austria at the first Winter Youth Olympic Games 1st year student Ivan Galushkin won the silver medal in the mixed relay cross-country skiing and biathlon.

Graduates of physical and mathematical faculty are quoted as specialists of high level, and the state on merits noted their dedicated work. More than 160 graduates of a physical mat working in the Ulyanovsk region are awarded by awards and medals of the Russian Federation, have a rank "National Teacher of the USSR", "Honored Teacher of the Russian Federation", "Excellent Student of National Education", "Honourable Educator of the Russian Federation". Among them P. P. Golovin, I. A. Katorgina, T. A. Poletayeva, G. G. Truzin, R. A. Ayzetullova, A. R. Edvars, T. V. Isaeva and many others. Many years the graduate of physical and mathematical faculty V. N. Mironov was the chief of head department of formation of the Ulyanovsk region, the last years also the graduate of faculty A. R. Kornilin was the chief of regional Department of Education.

In 2005, a graduate of the Faculty, now a math teacher diversified lyceum № 11 Ulyanovsk Irina Lomakina, won the main prize - "Crystal Pelican" at the All-Russian "Teacher of the Year" contest.

Graduates of physical and mathematical faculty work in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Novy Urengoy, Samara, Chita, in all neighboring countries, and also in Germany, England, France, Canada, the USA.

It should be noted that the vast majority of the faculty of faculty - his former students.   

The management of faculty supports the program of the Governor S. I. Morozov for development of a nuclear cluster and works on creation based on faculty of children's nuclear academy. Besides, at faculty it is planned to update material and technical resources, to resume work of observatory, and also to create the scientific and methodical center of implementation of information and communication, multimedia and interactive technologies in education.
